Furthermore, BART trains should be subjected to the limit on acceleration/deceleration capabilities. To qualify this, the headway of the two trains needs to be greater than twice the minimum headway required (based on BART train safety requirements). The measurement of time or distance between two successive train-runs at a station, also referred to as the ‘headway’, for selected lines have been considered to evaluate possible freight train insertions into time-space slots of current passenger services. The objective of this study is to identify the number of feasible dedicated freight train that can be accommodated by BART lines using its current operational schedule, without creating a negative effect on passenger service. If BART’s service is extended to include air-freight movement, extra revenue can be generated, truck miles travelled on highways will be reduced (potentially leading to a reduced traffic congestion and pollution), and traffic safety could be improved. The Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system has 63 percent unused capacity on average in non-peak hours. Because of these conditions, it is imperative to explore transportation alternatives. Traffic congestion and trucking activities are increasing due to the rapid population growth and the expansion of the local, State, national, and international economy. It is also home to several freight generators, like the San Francisco International Airport the Port of Oakland and Oakland International Airport. Thanks in advance, and again feel free to roast me lol.The San Francisco Bay Area is considered to be a gateway for international air freight - receiving and exporting goods to and from many Asian countries. Please let me know if I make any sense, and if you have any tips on how to read Bart maps/use the trip planner effectively and how to navigate transfers. I now understand I was supposed to transfer to another train at one of the stops, just curious why it’s not noted in the trip planner, or really built into the map? Unless I’m just totally misreading the map/trip planner, am I crazy or is this a thing? It looks as though on the map the white dots are the transfers stations? If that’s the case why do they not tell you to transfer in the trip planner? I admit I was wearing headphones and was not paying attention, had to get back on another BART going back the other way lol. I am good at getting around in new places, I know Seattle transit like the back of my hand, and even got around in London just fine on the tube/busses.Īnyhow, I used the trip planner, caught it at civic center station, got on the right train, yet did not end up at the airport. I admittedly fucked up taking BART from the city to the airport, so please roast me if you wish, as I probably deserve it. I’m from Seattle, but have found myself wanting to spend more time in San Francisco. Out of towner here, with Bay Area roots, and family still in the area.
